Playing Format
The tournament will follow round robin format. Each player will face every opponent once in a single game to 11, win by 2. There will be game caps at 13.
Playing format may be adjusted at the discretion of the Tournament Director.
There will be playoff rounds. The top 4 players from each division will play in the playoffs. Semi-final games will consist of the number 1 seed playing the number 4 seed and the number 2 seed playing the number 3 seed. The winners of each game will play for 1st and 2nd place. There will not be a game to determine 3rd and 4th place.
Each player will be allowed one timeout per game (one minute).
Each division will be playing on its own set of courts. Court entry/exit etiquette: Please be courteous by waiting for a stoppage in play and entering/exiting as a pair.
All other IFP/USAPA Rules will be in effect.
Referees
There will NOT be referees during the matches. You will referee your own matches. We expect good sportsmanship at all times in this area.
Guidelines for calls: line calls should be made by the player receiving the ball, and should ONLY be called out if the ball is CLEARLY seen as out. If a player is unsure of the call, they should assume the ball was in, and continue playing. If the hitting player sees a ball out, they can also call it out on themselves. Either player can make calls on service faults or non-volley zone faults, and the hitting player is expected to call faults on themselves.
We appreciate your help to make this event a fun experience. If there are any problems, players involved may be disqualified from participating in future Mentor Pickleball events.
DUPR
There has been a lot of interest in scores being uploaded into DUPR to help players get a better idea on their rating. However, some individuals do not wish for their scores to be reported. We decided to upload scores into DUPR for this event. However, if you DO NOT wish for your scores to be uploaded to DUPR, please reach out to Jenna and your games will not be reported.
In order for scores to be uploaded into DUPR, you will need to have a DUPR account. Once you have an account, you will need to join the Mentor Pickleball Club. Here is the link to join: https://dashboard.dupr.com/dashboard/browse/clubs/7674974117.
Weather
If there is a forecast for an all day rain, we will cancel the tournament. There are not rain backup dates. If there is a forecast for possible rain, we will normally try to get the tournament in. Once started, we will normally try to complete the tournament if there is a projected short rain delay. It usually takes about 45 minutes from the time it stops raining to dry out the courts (assuming some sun and/or wind). In case of questionable weather, we will e-mail any weather updates the morning of the tournament. If you are driving from far away and need an update, please text Jenna at 440-465-2395.
